Hey, I’m Corey
the creator of Shift In Shape
my story
2014 - My health and fitness journey started when I was in school, I was that skinny short kid that looked like I needed a good meal. This left me very self-conscious and unconfident in who I was.
2015 - This was the main driver for getting myself into the gym to help build my confidence. I started learning as much as I could about how to take care of myself physically and mentally.
2016 - I gained a lot of momentum through school to look and feel better. However, as soon as I went into full employment working shifts, things took a nosedive.
2016 - The change of lifestyle was tough, lates, nights, split shifts, random rota changing, or getting rotas week by week.
It felt impossible to keep taking care of myself and to do my job, and I was stuck with a choice - My health or my work.
2017 - Not eating right, exercising, and sleeping well took its toll on me. I had zero energy, I was sleeping through my alarm, couldn’t be bothered to do anything on my days off.
Friends began seeing me less and less. Because I was either always working or always recovering. It was like I was only living to work, that was it.
2018 - After things got progressively worst over 2 years, the breaking point was when my manager sat me down telling me I couldn’t have the promotion I was pushing for and I was at risk of being fired unless I sorted it out.
2018 - This was my wake-up call that shift work wasn't going to beat me. I got into a routine, starting eating right, exercising, and looking at ways I could make shift worker life easier. So I could stop just working to live and actually start loving life again.
For me taking care of your health isn’t just about the physical side. For you to be truly healthy it has to be both physical and mental, so it’s why I pay close attention to both in my coaching.
